Laptop
Instructions
Internet access
is available in many Enhanced Classrooms. If you experience any technical problems
or the Internet connection, please call ECS at 445-3612 or email at equipment at teachx .rutgers .NOSPAM..edu.
Before you turn on your laptop or power up the podium:
- Plug the provided
PC/Video cable into the video output (VGA) of your laptop. This may be labeled
"external monitor" on some laptops.
- Press "Laptop
PC" on the podium touch screen
- Connect your
ethernet cable to the "Data" jack on the podium and the ethernet
jack on your computer. You must bring your own ethernet cable, there are
none in the podiums.
- Turn on the
laptop
- For
pc:
If the screen on your laptop does not appear on the projection screen, hold
down the fn key and press the F# Key with the lcd/vga symbol
on it. This varies by computer model.
- For mac:
Click Apple menu - Control Panels - Monitor, then select the appropriate monitor
setting.
- If the projection
works, but you do not have internet access, the problem is with your TCP/IP
Properties (see below)
Windows 95/98
- Right-Click
on Network Neighborhood and select "Properties" (if you do not see
a "Network Neighborhood" on your desktop, click "Start"
--> "Settings" --> "Control Panel" and double-click
the "Network" icon.)
- Click the TCP/IP item that
specifies Ethernet (not dialup), then click "Properties"
- Write down the information that you see - you may need it later when you return to your office.
- Click "obtain
IP address automatically"
- Click OK and exit
the network control panel. You will need to reboot at this point. Be sure to follow the startup procedure above.
MacOS 9 and
earlier
- Click Apple
- Control Panels - TCP/IP Settings
- If you need
to save your current settings, click on the "File" menu then "Configurations"
and click "Duplicate." Name the new settings "Classroom", save it, and click
"Make Active".
- Set "Connect"
to "Via Ethernet" and "Configure" to "Via DHCP"
- Close the TCP/IP
control panel.
If you find that
you need to reboot the laptop after changing the TCP/IP Settings, make sure
you follow the proper power up order above
