Hill 116 projection image status

Please be advised that one of the video processors in Hill 116 has become inoperable. This has resulted in a green tint on the data and video images projected on the screen.

We have a replacement on order. We will replace the unit as soon as it is delivered from the manufacturer, tentatively scheduled for 1/26/07.

The system can still be utilized; the image will just appear discolored. We will send notification once the system is back on-line.

New ARC 103 Lighting

ARC 103 – New Classroom Lighting Controls.

RU Facilities department has replaced the lighting grid in AC 103. The new fixtures are much brighter, and evenly disperse the light, eliminating the shadows that were once a concern. The controls for the light scenes are located on the podium touch screen. The scenes are set up as follows:

Pushing the button labeled “Lights” or “Lighting” opens the lighting control window. There are five buttons on the window. Each button establishes a certain level of lighting by turning arbitrary lamps on or off and by varying the level of light generated by each lamp.

1. ALL OFF: This button turns all of the hanging lamps, except the emergency lamp toward the back of the room. Fluorescent lights on the ceiling may remain lit since the touch screen does not control them; using the switch next to the back entrance of the auditorium will turn off these lights.

2. LOW: This button turns some lights on to allow for note taking, but the room remains fairly dark to enhance the images on the projection screens.

3. MEDIUM: This button brightens the room considerably, but will still allow images to be seen on the projection screens.

4. HIGH: This button turns all of the lights on including the blackboard lighting. The overall lighting level is reduced by 25% from the "ALL-ON" level.

5. ALL ON: This button turns every light on to the fullest extent. You may find this level to be very bright.

There are secondary controls on the right side of the podium; however, these buttons do not reflect the pre-programmed lighting scheme. The dimmer equipment takes about 3 - 4 seconds to engage each lighting scheme, so please be patient.

Classroom Upgrades - January 2007

Scott 123 - College Avenue Campus

We have completed the renovations for Scott 123. New equipment has been installed is one of our redesigned podiums. The podium is similar to the one used in Scott 135. It is a one-piece desk design with a sliding door for the document camera. All of the equipment functionality is still the same; however, the following innovations have been incorporated:

There are now two data projectors installed, which allow for greater flexibility of presentation material. Instructors will be able to project their media on either one or both screens; or, simultaneously project 2 different media sources on separate screens. For example, you can now project PowerPoint from your laptop on one screen, and use the document camera or play a video on the other. The dual screen design will also better enable use of the chalk board while projecting on one screen.

The system has an upgraded digital document camera that will capture and project a better, brighter and more detailed image.

A digital audio device is installed that will enable instructors to optionally record lectures as "podcasts" for automatic distribution to your students. For more information, go to http://cat.rutgers.edu/faculty/podcasting/

The system is very intuitive and simple to operate. Photos and additional information are available on our website, http://classrooms.rutgers.edu. We will provide additional assistance during this week and will offer orientation sessions for those who would like to have more in depth training.

Campbell A2 & Campbell A3 - College Avenue Campus

Campbell A2 & A3 have been upgrades to yellow level enhanced classroom status. Both classrooms are now equipped with data projectors to allow for laptop projection. These 2 classrooms can also display VHS videotapes and multi-region DVDs. RU Wireless access is also available. Photos and additional information are available on our website.

ARC 103 – Busch Campus

RU Facilities department has replaced the lighting grid in AC 103. The new fixtures are much brighter and designed to evenly disperse the light; eliminating the shadows that were once a concern.
